NYC’s First Potential Snowfall

On a light note, NYC and the surrounding areas is set to get it’s first snowfall this weekend. Starting Friday evening, the forecast currently calls for 1-3 inches of snow to fall, with another 5-8 inches to fall on Saturday. What I always find amusing is that there are regions of the state, the country, and the world, that routinely receive twice as much snow, with it having little to no effect on area. In NYC and the surrounding areas, just a few inches of snow causes an almost panicked state!

People run to the stores to purchase “supplies”, as if they believed they are going to be snowed in their home for days. Schools are closed, sometimes on just the mere forecast of snow. The media puts out a constant stream of warnings about the potential danger of driving, as though driving in the snow was somehow a life threatening undertaking. I just laugh. To me, it’s usually all just a joke. It’s just snow people. We don’t ride horses to travel anymore, we have heated automobiles, and all it takes to arrive safely to your destination is a slower pace and a little common sense. Two feet of snow? I can see the issue. Three to six inches? Relax, it’s not a big deal. But hey, I’m just a cop. Cops drive to work in all kinds of weather.
