I am posting this information so those of you involved in discussions with people who are claiming that what President Trump is doing is “illegal”, “unconstitutional”, blah blah blah. The Immigration and Nationality Act (§ 212(f)) CLEARLY STATES the following:
“(f) Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”
So, President Trump is absolutely, positively within his rights to enact his order on immigration. He is absolutely, positively within his rights to deny entry into the United States by any immigrant he deems detrimental to the United States. THERE IS NO REFUTING THAT.
If people believe The Immigration and Nationality Act is is unconstitutional, then they must take it to court, and ultimately the Supreme Court would have to rule it unconstitutional. Every Lawyer on CNN, MSNBC, NPR, or any other television channel can call it unconstitutional, BUT ONLY THE SUPREME COURT CAN DEEM IT AS SUCH. Until such time, IT IS NOT UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
What people can do, is disagree with the President. They can believe this to be immoral, unjust, or simply “not the right thing to do”. That they are entitled to do. But please, stop with the “HE CAN’T DO THIS!” and the “THIS IS AN OUTRAGE, IT’S UNCONSTITUTIONAL” nonsense. Because he can, and it’s not.
I hope this helps.
