CNN Reports: A masked man wielding a sword or a knife killed a teacher and a student in an attack Thursday at a school in Trollhattan, Sweden, before police fatally shot him, authorities said.
A man in his twenties walked into a school, and started attacking people. The death toll as of this writing stands at two, with two others wounded. I refuse to turn this into a “guns are not the only weapons people use to kill other people” diatribe. The problem isn’t guns. The problem isn’t swords. The problem is people. People who have a warped, sick mind, and choose to savagely murder innocent people.
We need to stop blaming inanimate objects, and start addressing the real problem: why are people doing this? We need to take a cold, hard look, and try to find some answers. Is it purely a mental health crisis, or are there other causes? Is it a break down of the family? Is it that the younger generations have been so desensitized to violence? Or is it that we have become so self-centered, so narcissistic, that our personal “curiosities about killing” outweigh our moral obligation not to hurt innocent people? I don’t have the answers, and sadly, I’m not sure who does.
